![]() Well that time came today, though fortunately it happened as I was about to lock the bike, not unlock it. That solution worked for a bit, but the lock gradually became more temperamental up to the point where I started to worry about locking my bike up and then not being able to unlock it. Kryptonite also recommend lubing the lock with something like Finish Line. Apparently it's a known issue and it can usually be worked around by using a paperclip or small screwdriver to line up all the discs in the barrel before inserting the key (otherwise it may not go in all the way and then won't turn). I bought an Evolution Mini-7 about 18 months ago, and was very pleased with it until a few weeks ago when the key started to jam, making unlocking it a bit iffy. Racks – An easy location to attach a u-lock if you’re bike setup includes a front or rear rack.ĭown Tube – The only reason you don’t often see u-locks attached to the down tube is that there’s usually a water bottle cage in this spot.Kryptonite sell most of their U-locks with a "Lifetime Limited Warranty", promising to replace a defective lock at any time if returned to them or their authorised distributor. If you have a seat that rides high than you have the option to place a u-lock under it. Under the Saddle – Not every bike has a seat high enough to allow for a u-lock to fit under it. If you choose to install a u-lock bike mount to the seat tube you’ll want to make sure that the u-lock is out of the way from your legs and pedal. Seat Tube – Another prime spot to place your u-lock. I’ve seen bike commuters with this setup and it’s possible, but in my opinion not ideal. If you ride with a bell and a light attached to your handlebars than this will only take up more space. Handlebars – Not my favorite spot to place a u-lock, because I want the handlebars to be as free from clutter as possible. It’s out of the way and is great for those cyclists who are minimalists. Top Tube – One of the best places to attach a u-lock.
